Top 10 Most Reasons for Emergency Plumbing

‘Now really isn’t a good time’ – it’s what we all say when faced with an emergency plumbing issue. There’s never a good time for a plumbing emergency to happen, but when they do, they always come at the most inconvenient moments.

You might be fast asleep at night, and suddenly awoken by a burst pipe; in a rush for work in the morning and there’s no hot water, or meeting friends for drinks, and your toilet overflows just before the taxi arrives. Don’t worry, we’ve all been there.

The reality is, plumbing problems are a complete nuisance. But luckily that’s what emergency plumbing services, like us, were designed to do. As a local Bristol emergency plumber, we are on hand 24/7 to deal with any problem. With over 18 years of experience in the plumbing trade, we’re well-accustomed to all major faults, breaks, and bursts. We’re also just a phone call away, making the thought of an emergency far less scary.

As the number one emergency plumber Bristol has to offer, we’ve faced pretty much every plumbing catastrophe there is over the years. So, here are the 10 most common plumbing emergencies. After reading this, you should have a much better idea of what’s classed as an emergency. So, next time you’re faced with one of these, be sure to give us a call right away.

1- Blocked Toilet

One of the most common plumbing emergencies, and equally one of the most unpleasant. If your toilet is making strange noises, leaking or struggling to flush, it’s very likely your toilet is blocked. This is not a problem you can afford to ignore. If you do, it will lead to sewage back up and a fairly disgusting end result.

2- Blocked Sink

People forget just how much they rely on sinks, and only remember when they have to cope without one. You might be cleaning your teeth or cooking up a storm for some friends, then, suddenly your sink starts to overflow. Although it’s incredibly inconvenient, its only usually requires a simple fix. Be sure to give us a call straight away and we’ll get it sorted immediately.

3- Blocked Shower Drain and Bathtubs

Again, like sinks, when this happens it’s a real pain. If you notice your shower filling up slightly, it can be tempting to ignore it. If it’s not flooding your bathroom, it’s nothing to worry about right? Wrong. This will only make things worse, and come your next shower, you could experience significant flooding. Again, simply call us – the most trusted 24 hour plumber Bristol has.

4- Leaking Washing Machine Hose

This type of problem can go unnoticed for a while, but it’s the unseen stuff that does the real damage. A leaking washing machine hose can be a nightmare. Depending on where your washing machine is in your house, it can stain carpets and attract mould, or leak through the floor, causing damp in other rooms.

5- Burst or Broken Pipes

Some of the most expensive emergency callouts we have to deal with are burst or broken pipes. These are more common in winter when pipes freeze over and crack. While they can be expensive, costs can be kept to a minimum, if you address the problem early. If you see a fall in water pressure or a steep hike in water bills, you may very well have a burst pipe somewhere. Sort it out early and save plenty of money.

6- Sewer Back-Up

Again, this is a particularly unpleasant inconvenience. A sewer back-up is when something blocks the natural flow of waste water from your home. This, then, causes the sewage to back-up into your home through sinks, plug holes, or shower basins. Tell-tale signs, include foul smells or blocked drains. Don’t let this get out of hand – the consequences can be, let’s say, a little off-putting.

7- No Hot Water

A chilly winter’s morning, in a hurry to get the kids off to school and there’s suddenly no hot water. A parent’s worst nightmare. While ice baths are popular with sports professionals and in Icelandic lagoons, we think we’ll stick to nice warm water. If you do wake up one morning with no hot water, it could be down to an electrical or plumbing fault. Give us a call immediately and we’ll get it sorted.

8- Low Water Pressure

It’s easy to spot low water pressure: there might be hardly any water coming out of the taps or the slightest trickle from your power shower. If this is the case, there’s likely a problem with your water pressure. This could be down to debris building up in the pipes, wider issues with your municipal water supply or a break in your main’s water line. We can identify the problem right away.

9- Broken Water Lines

Sometimes the cause of a plumbing problem is out of your hands. A broken water line may be affected by a falling tree, storm or poorly aimed shovels. Give us a call and we’ll source where the break has taken place.

10- Leaky Faucets and Toilets

While it may only sound like an irritating drip, these sorts of leaks could be costing you thousands of pounds. These leaks can cause rust to build-up and mould to develop in unwanted places.

Plumbing issues aren’t something you should ignore. You may think that a minor problem isn’t anything to worry about, but over time this will only get worse. As tried and tested, plumbing services Bristol people trust, we are always on hand to deal with any type of emergency – those listed in this blog and more. Whatever your plumbing issue, be sure to give us a call right away. We’re just one phone call away from putting things right.
